A Study Minimizes the Harmful Effects of Alcohol in Early Pregnancy

An international study of large-scale returns to the delicate subject of alcohol consumption during pregnancy . It should not appeal to physicians who practice zero tolerance when a woman is expecting a happy event advancing risk of premature birth , babies are too small at birth or hypertension for the mother. Indeed , Dr. Fergus McCarthy and a team of international researchers compared the data of five children born. 628 women pregnant for the first time between 2004 and 2011. More than half of women reported drinking alcohol during the first trimester of pregnancy. While 19 % said only drink occasionally (one to two drinks per week ), 25 % agreed consume between three and seven drinks per week , and 15 % reported drinking more than seven drinks per week .However, the researchers did not notice any differences between the groups of pregnant women in terms of premature birth, small babies or pre-eclampsia , a serious condition that causes high blood pressure in pregnant women . The results of this study are published in the online version of the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology , before a paper scheduled for publication in October . However, as is echoed in HealthDay , this study has led to criticism of American associations , stressing that it does not take into account the harmful effects of alcohol on children's health in the long term . Although the link between heavy drinking and problems with health and development in children is found , the researchers explain that this latest study does not hold true for moderate consumption. A Danish study published in 2012 , for example, showed that low levels of alcohol consumption during pregnancy did not affect the mental capacity of the child to his five years. Other research published in April came to the same conclusion. After analyzing the behavior of 10,534 children aged seven years born to mothers who drank moderately during pregnancy , researchers from University College British found no behavioral or cognitive differences to completely abstinent mothers. As it is not completely proven that even moderate consumption has no impact on the health of the child , many experts recommend simply abstain from drinking during pregnancy. But as noted in the Harvard Health Blog , some of the major health agencies , such as the UK Department of Health , do not prohibit the consumption of one or two alcoholic drinks per week during pregnancy . So there are several schools. Source: http://www.shvoong.com/lifestyle/food-and-drink/2388978-study-minimizes-harmful-effects-alcohol/#ixzz2eh7uzTuS
